Salix herbacea

		Foliage: the trailing twigs of this short tree grow from thin, tortuous branches, carrying 2 or 3 fairly circular leaves. Flowers: katkins develop in July and August.

Size: 2 cm above the ground, growing one tenth of a millimetre per year.

Habitat: snowy coombs with siliceous soil. In the Pyrenees: found throughout the range at altitudes above 2,500 m. Typical companions: Alpine bittercress, Alpine white veronica, sedum alpestre, dwarf cudweed...
