Size: these dwarf trees are often found together, forming microforests no more than 5 cm tall.
Habitat: snowy coombs with siliceous soil.

In the Pyrenees: throughout the range at alpine levels (from 2,200 to 3,000 m).
Typical companions: Alpine buttercup, Alpine hutchinsia, Alpine willowherb.

Foliage: winding stems trail along the ground, putting down small roots. The oval leaves are green and shiny on both sides. They have slight indents near the top.
